Discovery of the program to educate the next generation of respiratory therapists through bursaries at Thompson Rivers University
Respiratory therapists are vital members of the healthcare team who provide life-saving care to patients with breathing problems. They work in various settings, such as emergency rooms, intensive care units, neonatal units, and pulmonary clinics. They also operate and maintain sophisticated respiratory equipment, such as ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, and nebulizers.
However, becoming a respiratory therapist is not easy. It requires a specialized education program that covers anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical practice. In British Columbia, the only program that offers this training is at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops. The program is highly competitive and rigorous, lasting for three years and involving both academic and practical components.
That’s why TB Vets Charitable Foundation is proud to support the students of the TRU Respiratory Therapy program through bursaries. TB Vets is a non-profit organization that has been arming the medical frontline in the fight for respiratory care since 1946. TB Vets funds critical respiratory equipment, research, and education in BC.
We recognize the importance of investing in the future of respiratory care by helping aspiring respiratory therapists achieve their dreams. TB Vets annually awards bursaries to deserving students who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, community involvement, and leadership potential. These awards help ease the financial burden of tuition, books, fees, and living expenses for the students.
Our Charitable Foundation is grateful to all the donors who make these bursaries and scholarships possible. By supporting the education of respiratory therapists, TB Vets is ensuring that BC will have a well-trained and dedicated workforce that can provide quality respiratory care to those who need it most.
