“I decided to apply to Thomson River University’s (TRU’s) Respiratory Therapy (RT) program after graduating with a BSci. I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, and RT training allows for a lot of flexibility – I can become a Respiratory Therapist, or I can go into perfusion, anesthesiology, and many other fields.
I’m halfway through my program, and the education has been great. The course that stands out the most to me was our neo-natal one. Working with tiny mannequins and super small ventilators made me realize how much different working with babies is!
I’ll be starting my clinical training in a few months, and I’m excited to work in a hospital. I love dynamic environments and I thrive in conditions where I don’t quite know what to expect – so the I think I would do well in the ER.
TRU recommends that we don’t work during our schooling because the program is intensive, so the scholarship was a huge help. I try to work as I can during breaks, however the bursary has provided some relief. It’s great to feel like I don’t have to work during my studies to get by. Thank you!”
